A Better World

Move over Slade! We have joined forces with local schools in a race for a Christmas number 1

Along with nine Elmbridge schools we have penned an original song about making the world a better place in the hope of breaking into the Christmas charts and raising vital funds for local children’s hospice charity, Shooting Star Chase.

A Better World, released on Monday 23 November, was written by primary and secondary students in workshops where they brainstormed words and phrases which convey feelings they have experienced. Gavin Greenaway, locally acclaimed music composer and conductor, worked with the children from Weybridge and Walton-on-Thames to compose the music.

A Better World includes verses focused on peace, friendship and courage, and also features a rap. The song is available to download via iTunes on 23 November, with high hopes it will make the top 40 and raise funds for Shooting Star Chase to help the charity support children with life-limiting conditions and their families in London and Surrey.

The song was created as part of the Elmbridge Schools Values Group – a values-led education system adopted by all nine schools. Pupils are encouraged to consider 22 universally positive values such as respect, trust and honesty in activities, lessons and events throughout their education to develop a solid foundation on which to base their future actions, decisions and judgements. Recent projects have included concerts, a community day, a values poetry anthology and a community values garden.
